Position Summary

KEA Technologies, Inc., an engineering and R&D firm focused on the transportation industry, is currently seeking a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join their Chemistry Group.

The qualified applicant will be highly motivated, enthusiastic about innovative R&D, and become an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team including scientists, engineers, and subject-matter experts. The group works on a wide array of application-driven research projects and performs standardized analytical testing services for external customers. The individual will be responsible for executing research with a broad range of analytical chemistry techniques for multiple applications. They will have strong attention to detail and will be able to work under limited supervision and thrive collaborating with others. Specific responsibilities will be dependent on company needs and the individual’s background and interests. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in an environment that requires independence, intellectual curiosity, detailed recording, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position reports to KEA’s Chemistry Senior Scientist. Responsibilities include:
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative testing and analysis of calibration specimens and samples, as well as prototype devices, on a broad variety of projects.
  • Use a range of experimental techniques, laboratory equipment, and software under limited supervision. Analytical techniques include the generation of high-quality standards, UV/Vis/IR spectroscopy, electrochemical methods, etc.
  • Use and assist with various data analysis tools, including programs in Python and R.
  • Assist in experimental design and evolution of laboratory procedures and technology.
  • Communicate timely information on issues during development and experimental processes.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and notebooks.
  • Attend team or group meetings, and present experimental results to a broad audience.
  • Assist in laboratory equipment and materials procurement.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for care, maintenance, and calibration of equipment to ensure efficient operations.
  • Maintain ISO 17025 compliance in experimental work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • BS in chemistry or chemical engineering, or related scientific or engineering field or equivalent, and 0-3 years of experience. Title/salary for this role is dependent on experience.
  • Laboratory experience designing, setting up, and conducting routine and non-routine experiments using diverse analytical techniques.
  • Familiarity with QMS and ISO 17025 accreditations is a plus.
  • Proficient with statistical software and windows software applications. Ideally, proficiency in a common open-source scientific language (Python, R, etc).
  • Familiarity with basic statistics.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
